Marine Corps - Advanced Rider Track Day Coach

Marine Corps - Advanced Rider Track Day (ARTD) Coaches, are experienced Marine riders who have been certified to coach and aid in the learning process at base sponsered track days.  ARTD Coaches are trained in techniques as well as coaching methods to better help their fellow Marines.  If you are an experienced rider and would to coach fellow riders and continue your learning as well, maybe being a coach is for you.  Below are the initial steps that you need to take.

Steps to become a  Marine Corps ARTD Coach:

  1.  Attend an ARTD event that is run with the standard USMC ARTD curriculum as a participant.
  2. If you feel this is something you would like to be a part of, contact the senior ARTD coach on site and inform him of that fact.
  3. Attend a second ARTD event as a participant, informing the senior ARTD coach on site at the beginning of the event that you would like to try out as an ARTD coach. Various aspects of your riding will be observed during the day: general skill level, how safe you ride, your ability to follow directions, etc.
  4. At the end of the day if you’re riding and general conduct is such that you would be a good fit, you will be informed. If not, you will be told why (which may be correctable, such as skill level not there yet). You will also receive an oral exam on the material covered to check your retention of the curriculum you were exposed to as a student.
  5. Work at an ARTD event as a flagger. This gives a behind-the-scenes view of the operation and allows the ARTD coaches to evaluate your alertness and competence while helping run an event.
  6. If your performance was acceptable and at this stage you decide you want to move forward with your ARTD coach training, inform the senior ARTD coach on site who will get you started on the training curriculum to become an ARTD coach.
