Training Courses

The following information guides Marines through the USMC motorcycle rider training requirements.  First remember these first three items:

If you own, ride or wish to ride a motorcycle, you must inform your Chain of Command
All Marines who ride will complete the motorcycle training as outline in 5100.19F (Below)
Contact you Installation, Base, or Station Traffic Safety Office for assistance.


Listed below are descriptions of the above listed courses:

Basic RiderCourse (BRC)


A two day course for beginner riders. This course is usually required to be taken and passed in order for individual to ride motorcycle on base. This course may qualify graduates for certain discounts through their insurance companies. Motorcycles and helmets are provided for students at select locations.

 

Experienced RiderCourse (ERC)

A one day course that provides riders with education and skills training needed for riding safely in traffic. Skills Practice RiderCourse is designed for riders who have successfully completed the BRC or who possess basic riding skills. You will need your own motorcycle and helmet for this course.

 

Military Sportbike RiderCourse (MSRC)

A “Next-level” training course designed for military riders who have their own sportbike and have completed the MSF Basic RiderCourse or the Experienced RiderCourse. MSRC is a one-day course of approximately three hours of classroom interactive lessons and four hours of range time.

 

Military Motorcycle RiderCourse
(MILMO) & ATV/LUV Courses

Students learn to ride on the street and on the dirt, as well as participating in tactical off-road exercises. The course includes the Basic RiderCourse, DirtBike Basic RiderCourse, Trail Riding RiderCourse, and tactical off-road exercises. The ATV Safety Institute’s ATV RiderCourse may also be included.
