Scooters, like motorcycles, are designed to be ridden on the road.  Typically, however, they have smaller displacement motors, usually less than 125cc.  Aside from “maxi-scooters”, they are not designed to be ridden on the freeway.

Some distinguishing features scooters have are smaller wheels, automatic transmissions, and a “step-through” frame that allows both feet and lets to be together while riding.  Some benefits of scooters are that they are light and portable, and usually have exceptional fuel mileage. But Keith Code cautions us that even “a moped is a deadly instrument in the wrong hands!”

Popular Uses

ERRANDS

Have a quick errand? Scooters are simple and easy to ride. Perfect for a quick trip across town. Many have some sort of built in but limited storage. Just remember, it is still dangerous and you still need proper PPE.

COMMUTING

Scooters can be an easy and cheap solution for commuting to work. Certainly economical. Just don’t be tempted to short-cut traffic laws as you are still exposed and relatively hard to see. Proper PPE is essential.
